The Concertgebouw and Van Lanschot Kempen present new podcast and video series

This month, The Concertgebouw presents a new podcast and video series. In the podcast 'Talking about Music', host Gijs Groenteman engages in conversations with musicians who perform at The Concertgebouw, together with musicologist Thomas de Jonker. In the simultaneously launched video series, Van Lanschot Kempen Concertgebouw Sessions, we see musicians performing at home and at The Concertgebouw, sharing their experiences of this year. The first episode features the renowned pianist Anna Fedorova. 

Podcast Talking about Music 
There is a famous saying: 'Talking about music is like dancing about architecture.' This quote is attributed to Frank Zappa, Sir Simon Rattle, Elvis Costello, and Steve Martin... It's an impossible task, talking about music. Yet, this is the goal of The Concertgebouw's new podcast. In Talking about Music, interviewer Gijs Groenteman has in-depth conversations with Dutch musicians about specific masterpieces. Violinist Liza Ferschtman, pianist Hannes Minnaar, and singer Karsu, among others, are asked about their stories. What lies behind the notes? What musical language does the composer speak? How was a piece created? Which interpretation do you choose? A podcast is the perfect medium to discuss these kinds of questions extensively, illustrated with audio excerpts. 

Episode 1: Violinist Liza Ferschtman 
In the first episode, Gijs Groenteman talks to violinist Liza Ferschtman. Thomas de Jonker, musicologist at The Concertgebouw, joins as Gijs' sidekick. Together, they discuss Igor Stravinsky's Violin Concerto for almost 90 minutes. A conversation about delightful notes, technical challenges, fart sounds in the bassoon, and Viennese waltzes. What is the difference between counting and making music? And why shouldn't a piece be twice as long? The first episode (out of a series of eight) will be available on Tuesday, October 13th, on all major podcast platforms. A new episode will be released every two weeks. 

Van Lanschot Kempen Concertgebouw Sessions 
Earlier this year, The Concertgebouw and Van Lanschot Kempen presented the highly successful Empty Concertgebouw Sessions, with over 1 million viewers. Now, The Concertgebouw introduces the Van Lanschot Kempen Concertgebouw Sessions, where the audience gets a glimpse into the musicians' homes. The musicians speak in the videos and present themselves in a contemporary music video style. The performances at home and at The Concertgebouw are filmed by the regular crew of the Concertgebouw Sessions. Over 70 artists have participated in the Concertgebouw Sessions so far, and the videos have been viewed over 1 million times.
